Going in a slightly different direction today… This is a book spine poem. The idea is not mine – it came from my local library’s adult summer reading program (brilliant program, btw). Their rules: arrange the spines of any number of books of your choosing so that the titles comprise a poem/tell a story. Then you take a picture and submit it – the librarians will pick the one they like best and that person will win a “gift basket of book-related items.” How clever and fabulous!
So of course I had to enter. π
Here’s what I came up with. It was more than a little challenging, particularly since I only have about 2.5 boxes of my 1200+ books unpacked (long story very short, my uncle is building me a beautiful set of built-in shelves, but he couldn’t start until we finished finishing the basement, and since then his schedule has been a mess). So I didn’t have a ton of titles to pick from – but I still think it turned out pretty cool.
Let me know what you think – and if you do one of your own, put up a link so we can all see!

Time and again,
-
love walked in.
The long walk.
Blink,
-
and she was
the thief of Time.
Now, face to face,
-
belong to me.
Forever.
What a brilliant idea! I love it!
The poem is lovely, Jill. π
I will add your post to my July 19 “Three for Thursday” recommendations. I can see a lot of writer-bloggers having fun with this idea!
(I know I owe you and email. Sorry for the delay… Bad me.) π
Isn’t that cute?? I wish I could claim credit for the idea… I’m glad you liked it though!
And don’t let’s be ridiculous – no worries at all about email delays EVER, silly writer friend! π Hang in there – we’ll chat soon!
Jizzle!
Love this idea. But now, when I’m SUPPOSED to be writing, I’m scanning the books on my shelves. I’ll let you know if I come up with something π
Jeni
Teehee – I’m sorry Jeni!! Believe me, I of all people understand how dangerous this type of distraction is… I definitely want to see what you come up with – I had a few very random discordant and/or funny ones – thought about a contest of my own! Perhaps I’ll settle for posting one every now and again – it’s fun, challenging, a great way to procrastinate (teehee again) and a nice conversation starter… π Thanks for stopping by!
Love it
Why thank you Franclemom! π
Amazing! You are so creative and talented Jill. What a great idea and educational too. Thank you for sharing this with us.
You are too kind Jeff, too kind! It is a surprisingly fun and educational/novel (pun intended) way to think about words – I would think it’d be a great exercise in schools. Thanks for the lovely compliments and for stopping by…
