Book Review: T-Rex Tries Again… by Hugh Murphy

Is there anything as marvelous as life lessons and observations about humanity that are delivered via T-Rex? I think not…

In Hugh Murphy’s latest T-Rex book, we are once again treated to the delightful sight of a dinosaur trying his best to navigate the minefield that is daily life, all while dealing with the limitations that genetics have foisted upon him. And if there’s a more apt analogy for daily human life, I’m sure I don’t know what it is!

T-Rex faces everyday challenges with aplomb, a sense of humor, and – most importantly – an acceptance of the ridiculous. The cartoons are fantastic examples of how sometimes, no matter how hard we try, things just don’t (can’t?) work out our way. But T-Rex never stops trying, and he never stops providing an opportunity to laugh – at ourselves, at life, and at the things we can’t control.

These books (this is the third) are glorious. This one – as each previous – made me laugh out loud until my husband felt compelled to ask me what, exactly, I was reading. The kids (from college-age to high-school to the first-grader) think they’re hilarious. The cartoons are the perfect blend of snarky and family-friendly such that I can share them with all of them, and the illustrations are priceless… If you’re looking for something light-hearted yet also meaningful and surprisingly insightful, this is a fantastic place to start!

Thank you to the publisher for my obligation-free review copy. This was an absolute delight and would make a FABULOUS holiday gift! If you’d like to see more about T-Rex, visit him (and Hugh Murphy!) online at trextrying.tumblr.com.
