Book Review: The Delphi Effect by Rysa Walker

What an excellent read this was! I’ve read Rysa Walker before – Timebound, the first in the Chronos Files series. I enjoyed it, but didn’t love it, which surprised me since I am normally a huge fan of time travel stories and the plotline/characters were intriguing… Something about it felt a little off to me, though, but not so far so that I wasn’t curious about the author’s latest series. I am SO exceedingly glad I wasn’t put off, because The Delphi Effect was extraordinary. The writing was excellent, the storyline was novel (in a book world populated by an abundance of paranormalcy, that’s saying something) – and the characters, oh my goodness, the characters were wonderful. They felt fresh and clever and sassy while still remaining utterly human. Anna’s life isn’t one I’d wish on my worst enemy, but she handles whatever comes her way with aplomb – despite the veritable minefield of surprises thrown her way page after page… The supporting characters (most notably for me, Deo and Daniel) were well developed and really added depth to the story. This is a tale of family – the one we choose for ourselves as well as the ones we are born with/acquire along the way. But it’s also a tale of independence and making one’s own way – even when one has absolutely no idea where to step next.., The story opened strong and stayed that way. The drama built steadily until the ending, which blew me away – I am already eagerly awaiting the next installment… This was an excellent start to a very promising new series!

I received my review copy of this marvelous book free of charge through NetGalley.com, in exchange for my honest review. It is available now for pre-order, and will be on sale October 11.
