Book Review: The Therapist by B.A. Paris

I enjoy the novels of B.A. Paris, particularly in the more domestic – ish vein of The Dilemma and this newest offering. I enjoy delving into the dynamic of families and neighbors in the types of forced- drama settings that she crafts. She does a marvelous job presenting a range of personalities and forcing them into the crucible of a murder or death scenario.

In this latest book, she goes back and forth in time in a way that I found particularly engaging and confusing – in a good way – as it took me awhile to figure out what was really being told in all the back and forth. The drama was a slow build, and that sense of anticipation was enhanced by the narrator who I think did a fantastic job setting the tone for the story.

I listened to this one as an audio book – a format that is still relatively new for me… I *really* enjoyed this one as an audio. The narrator () was fabulous and listening to her English accent really brought the characters to life for me. There were actually two narrators. Normally, I don’t care for “cast” recordings with multiple voices, but in this instance the shift actually heightened the drama, and I think it worked quite well.

I really enjoyed this one!
