Let me start by stating upfront that I am generally NOT a fan of self-help or parenting books. That said, something about this one struck me and I picked it up anyway, and turns out it was a great fit for me. This is a marvelous book, full of hysterical anecdotes, painful (but funny) truths, and lots of empathy. There is also a lot of sound advice about the importance of perspective, realism, and letting the small things go…
I’m a bit of an anti-perfection parent myself, and found the stories relatable and a great way to let off a little steam at the end of a kid-filled day! The writing style is easy and engaging and the chapters are just about long enough for a break in the day. You can pick it up and put it back down without worrying about losing the thread – which is also helpful.
The advice feels sincerely meant and freely given without feeling preachy or strident. There’s nary a sense of “I TOLD YOU SO!” or scolding to be found, which is nice in a parenting book…
