About the Book
AN INCREDIBLE JOURNEY
Astoundingly, Constance has found a way back to the place of her origins, New York City in the late 1800s, leaping at the chance, although it means leaving the present forever.
A DESPERATE OPPORTUNITY
Constance sets off on a quest to prevent the events that lead to the deaths of her sister and brother. But along the road to redemption, Manhattan’s most infamous serial killer, Dr. Enoch Leng, lies in wait, ready to strike at the slightest provocation.
UNIMAGINABLE ODDS
Meanwhile, in contemporary New York, Pendergast feverishly searches for a way to reunite with Constance—but will he discover a way back to her before it’s too late?
My Review
This is book 21 in the series, so there’s a ton of backstory and not much I can say as far as details without giving away loads of secrets and surprises and I wouldn’t do that for the world. If you are not familiar with the books in all their twisty dark glory, you really must begin reading them. And read them IN ORDER. It is a long journey but one that is more than worth it.
I LOVE this series and this was a fantastic (in all senses of the word) tale in the context of the larger series story. And that’s saying something since it literally ends with “to be continued” and I HATE when authors do that…
Seriously though, this was a magnificent novel. I thoroughly enjoyed the alternate time line element which allowed us to learn more about Constance in a way that I found original and yet entirely within the structure of the story as established so far. And the ending – the whole book was wonderful but the last few sentences blew me away!
I was so glad to see the afterword in which the authors said they were furiously working on the conclusion to this airline larger storyline because I cannot wait to see how it wraps up!
Thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for my obligation-free review copy.
