Book Review: The Heir of Ra by M. Sasinowski

It’s not very often that I get to tell you that I’ve read something wholly original and utterly unlike anything I’ve read before – but I have and it is… The Heir of Ra blends Atlantean myth with the Egyptian pantheon with family drama, a coming-of-age tale, conspiracies, historical mysteries and legends, cutting-edge tech, AND plague. And if THAT didn’t get your attention, I should just pack it in right now.

Seriously.

Sasinowski has created a world that is fascinating in its shape and form, and he has populated it with characters that are compelling, engaging, and motivated in ways that only become clear as the story unfolds.

The protagonist, Alyssa, is a strong and sassy woman whose tenacity makes her jump off the page and set up residence in your head as you ride along on her whirlwind adventures through the history, memory, and geography of the world around her. The plot clicks along at just the right pace, up- and down-shifting with each chapter until you don’t know which end is up. The supporting cast is full of villains and heroes and they frequently swap places, keeping you just a bit off-kilter in the best possible way. And the whole thing is held together by a connective tissue comprised of the most fascinating elements of a host of legends, religions, and conspiracy theories which are woven together with a series of innovative constructions that result in something old but new that keeps you furiously turning pages, greedy for more…

The second book (Daughter of Ra) comes out tomorrow (June 6, 2019) and I’ve already pre-ordered my copy. This is a world I cannot get enough of, and I can’t wait to dive back into it!

My review copy was provided by the author. This in no way shaped my review or my decision to review. As always, my opinions are my own.
