What a cute book – and what a great topic! I have an unusual toddler – she is obsessed with dental floss, so I don’t have to struggle to get her to pay attention to her teeth and dental hygiene. I actually floss regularly, and for the past two years (since she was two), she has joined me (admittedly, semi-regularly, but still…) in my flossing routine. (She is partial to the mint waxed tape variety, if you’re curious – she likes the taste, which helps her want to use it. But just be wary, she has eaten it accidentally, because it “tasted too good” – a quick Google search confirmed that this happens with surprising regularity and, as long as the piece wasn’t too lengthy, there’s generally nothing to worry about and it all comes out in the, erm, end…)
Still, I recognize that my kid is not the norm, in the dental floss department. For those of you whose little ones are less interested in the topic, I suggest Ty Mall’s darling new book. With cute and engaging illustrations, he relates the tale of a very cute dinosaur who learns all about the importance of keeping his teeth healthy. The book offers very detailed instructions on the proper use of floss, and manages to do it in a fun and interesting way (no small task, that) that may even teach the adult reading it a pointer or two…
