My First GIVEAWAY or Woohoo, She Said!

I know, I know – TWO POSTS IN ONE DAY. AND a giveaway. My generosity truly knows no bounds… πŸ˜‰

Well, I figured it’s about time I started giving back…  Loyal readers keep visiting and commenting, new people keep finding me and joining, and authors, publishers, and other websites keep sending new books for me to review – it’s only fair that I figure out a way to say thank you, so I’m going to start doing giveaways.

Hooray, she said!

The first giveaway will feature two memoirs previously reviewed here on Jill-Elizabeth.com – The Company We Keep (hard cover – anecdotal story about a couple of spies who meet at work, fall in love, and eventually leave the CIA together) and The Color of Atmosphere (trade paperback – a pediatrician’s journey from medical school to doctor-hood to the decision to walk away from medicine altogether).Β  The books were both provided as review copies courtesy of LuxuryReading.com – and they are in perfect condition because Jill Elizabeth is an incredibly anal-retentive person who leaves books looking like new even after reading and/or referring to them multiple times.Β  (teehee)

The giveaway will also include a fabulous totebag featuring our very own Jill-Elizabeth.com logo (the shelf of books with the β€œJill-Elizabeth” featured at the top of the website).Β  How stylish is that, I ask you?Β  You will literally be the first (and only) person on your block to have one – I guarantee it.Β  Because only one other copy exists at this time and it is in my study, providing inspiration and encouragement, as my first piece of β€œmerchandise.” πŸ™‚

The rules are simple – to enter, all you have to do is make a comment on this post. Easy peasy.Β  It has to be an actual comment, mind you, not just your email address (although do make sure to include that too so I can contact you if you win).Β  It doesn’t have to be long or involved (unless you want it to be), and it doesn’t even have to be about the giveaway or these two books – it can be about anything you have ever seen/read on Jill-Elizabeth.com.Β  It just has to be something that indicates that you actually read one of my posts (or even just a piece of one) anywhere on the entire blog. (teehee)

You can also get an extra entry for providing a link/reference to the contest or the blog via each of the outlets listed below.Β  If you want the extra entries, please make sure that your comment includes not only the actual comment and email address, but also what you did to earn the extra entries with a linkback or some other way to verify that you actually did what you said you did.Β  Sorry for not trusting you, but I am an attorney by training, and we do like evidence… Β Media options for earning extra entries are:

  • A Tweet on Twitter (I am @jill_a)
  • A comment on your own blog (in a post, sidebar, blogroll, or whatever – as long as I can find the reference from your link, it’s good!)
  • A Facebook comment
  • Or for joining/following the β€œAll Things Jill-Elizabeth” group on Facebook

So you can get a total of five – count β€˜em, five! – entries.Β  I will accept entrants from anywhere in the world, as long as you understand that I will be shipping the Major Award out via an inexpensive packaging method. (teehee)

The contest will close at midnight, EDT, on Friday, July 15.Β  The winner will be selected by the miracle of Random.org using the List Randomizer.Β  That is, for every entry earned, the entrant’s email address will be entered into a list which the randomizer will sort, and the email address that ends up first out of the randomizer will win.

So hurry up and enter already – I’m excited to give away free stuff!Β  As a bonus, if the website shows that I have reached 100 Networked Blog/Facebook followers AND 150 Google Friends before the close of the contest, I will choose a second winner who will receive the same set of fabulous prizes (although these would be purchased copies of the books, rather than free review copies).

To recap, in case all of the above was too rambling to keep your attention, to enter this giveaway you:

  • MUST comment on this post about something you have read on Jill-Elizabeth.com and include your email address (this is the primary entry)
  • MAY, for one extra entry each, post on Twitter, your own blog, and/or Facebook about Jill-Elizabeth.com or the contest OR join the Facebook “All Things Jill-Elizabeth” group; if you do any of these, add another comment to this post saying what you did, including your email address again as well as reference(s) so I can verify that you did what you said you did

Good luck!!

I’m utterly overwhelmed by the rules, policies and procedures of this contest (and slightly skeptical of the randomization process, yet, i refuse to become a cynic). my general sense of confusion, however, will not stop me from entering. consider me entered. i seriously want that tote bag because, as you know, i am a fashion maven and trendsetter of the highest order. now, if you’ll excuse me, i need to go to the Gap and get a new pair of khakis. πŸ™‚

    • Oh Devon – how can you say that? After all, my rules, policies and procedures were developed in strict accord with the valuable learnings we acquired as Summer Associates – which means they should be crystal-clear to you, lo these many years later… (teehee) Good luck and enjoy your khakis. You maven you… πŸ˜‰

  • Love your blog, I’m now a following. I love give aways too!

  • Oops… my email is JoyAnne11(at)gmail(dot)com

  • Great giveaway! Thanks!! I’m following you now through Book Blogs. I’ve heard of the first book before, but never read it yet. I’ve never heard of the second one, but it sounds interesting, especially since I’ve been a medical transcriptionist the past 5 years. books(at)bookwormfamily(dot)com

  • Hmmmm….. I kind of doubt I’ll win being the first one to comment…. but oh well. It’s fun to enter anyway. I just joined your FB group. books(at)bookwormfamily(dot)com

  • Ah, Jill Elizabeth, your generosity truly is boundless. What a fantastic giveaway! I love the tote bag idea. How fun is that!? I have my fingers crossed for me. danakburgess(at)gmail(dot)com

I loved your review on Luxury Reading for The Color of Atomosphere. I would also love to be the only other person in the world with a totebag with Jill Elizabeth logo. I promise to use it always as a roving ad for your website.
    Love & Hugs,

I’m thinking I would love to book you as a guest speaker for my honors class! Let me know if you’re interested. I just finished reading The Kite Runner & The Namesake. Just started reading Life of Pi…gotta go…it’s time to read!

    • Why Jenn, what a pleasure to see you here! I would be honored to speak to your honors class – seriously. How cool! I read Kite Runner a number of years ago – I did not like the story and found the main character to be one of the most morally ambiguous and irritating people I’ve ever read, but the writing was very well done. Often, good writing will bring me back to an author even if the story wouldn’t, but I simply could not pick up his next book for fear of being aggravated again! (teehee) Thanks for stopping by, let’s talk soon!

I just read your morning poems about the family. I got my first laugh of the day. It’s still early here. Time for more later.

    • I am really enjoying it Evangeline. It’s surprisingly easy on the eyes and I really like that I can download a book any time, any place (I have the 3G version). I’ve put .pdf files of books/stories authors have sent me to review on there and they’ve been easy to read too. Plus there are so many things free – not only the classics/Project Gutenberg stuff, but I’ve found a number of paperback types that I’ve seen on sale that are free too. All in all I’m quite pleased with the purchase! Thanks for stopping by and commenting – and entering the contest!

  • Hey, I’m Google friend number 150 how cool is that! now you’re partway to your goal for having to give away a second set of books.

I’m so jealous that you got a Kindle. I keep promising myself one but never seem to have the money for it even though it’s not that expensive, for now I use the Kindle for PC app to do my reviews but you can’t read PDFs on it like you can on the real thing.

My email is rivawriter@yahoo.com and this is my only entry into the contest. Thanks.

  • Actually modify that last remark. I Google friend followed you and networked blogs followed you too. Do either of those count as extra entries, i can’t remember the rules.

  • The Color of Atmosphere is most interesting to me. I am a new gfc follower!

I found you through Book Blogs and have spent the past 30 minutes engrossed in all things Jill Elizabeth. I am now following you through GFC and would absolutely love to read “The Company We Keep”. As a side note, I am trying to write my first novel, and I totally get the frustration. UGH.
